Located in the heart of Pennsylvania and Montour Country is the city of Danville, PA. This vibrant community offers all of the advantages of rural living with an outstanding quality of life. Several golf courses provide ample opportunity for beginners to skilled players. PPL's Montour Preserve features over 14 miles of hiking and walking trails, picnicking, and fishing and boating on Lake Chillisquaque. Additionally, Knoebels Amusement Resort, America's largest free admission amusement park, is located only 20 minutes away and is open from spring through early fall.

Modern Danville is very much an "all-American" town with specialty shops, professional firms and your choice of restaurants but much of its early history centers around the iron industry. The discovery of iron in the hills surrounding Danville gave rise to iron ore works, which flourished from the 1830s through the end of the century. And although the iron industry has pretty much been entirely replaced with steel, it still holds an important place in the hearts of most of the areas residences. That could be because the wife of an iron-magnate founded the area's greatest health system.

Abigail Geisinger, widow of George Geisinger, used his fortune to build a hospital and clinic intended to be a regional medical center modeled after the Mayo Clinic. The Geisinger Hospital was completed in 1915, and has grown over the years. Today, travel nurses working at Geisinger Medical Center will find that they are part of the most important tertiary referral center in northern Pennsylvania. Geisinger and its affiliated institutions are also one of the largest employers in the region.
